Autodesk Showcase

Autodesk Showcase was a specialized, real-time 3D presentation and rendering software tool. It was built to bridge the gap between technical engineering data and commercial presentations, allowing architects, designers, and engineers to transform complex CAD models into highly realistic interactive walkthroughs, images, and movies.

However, Autodesk officially discontinued Showcase. Subscriptions ceased in March 2017, and all maintenance plans, renewals, and official support concluded in February 2018. The company shifted its investments toward cloud-based rendering technology and improving visualization features directly within core products like Revit and Inventor. Core Capabilities and Features

When it was actively utilized, Showcase was known for a distinct set of tools optimized for design exploration and client pitches:

Real-Time Presentation: Users could navigate through 3D models smoothly, similar to an interactive 3D video game environment, switching instantly between stylistic drafts and photorealistic ray tracing.

Alternative Lineups: The software featured comprehensive tracking for “Alternatives”. Presenters could click to swap out predefined materials, part geometries, or entirely different object position layouts on the fly during a live stakeholder meeting.

Cinematic Lighting & Environments: It supported standard Autodesk Material Libraries and paired them with a massive suite of built-in indoor and outdoor High Dynamic Range (HDR) environments. Shadows and material reflections reacted dynamically as the lighting context changed.

Storyboarding & Behaviors: Users could build sequences of keyframe camera shots and compile them directly into an automated playback storyboard to guide clients seamlessly through a structural walk-through.

Technical Presentation Tools: It included options for cross-sections to peer inside closed assemblies, accent lights to highlight specific engineering focus zones, and animated turntables to display standalone consumer items. Popular Workflows

Showcase became highly popular among design professionals because it integrated beautifully with the broader Autodesk Product Portfolio via built-in suite workflows: Autodesk Showcase
